This was not the song I planned to vid Charles/Erik too. At all. I had ideas of picking something obscure and atmospheric, not...well, um, the most popular song in the world at the moment that can be used for any fictional love story gone wrong. But Adele tapped my shoulder and whispered HEY VID ME VID ME, and I couldn’t resist, not when images fell into place in my head without even trying. It clicked with me, and when that happens, you don’t argue with it, you just let the inspiration take you where it leads. I love somewhat-pop songs with incredible beats and gorgeous instrumentation, and Adele has that in spades. I think I’ve found my new vidding soulmate. You and me, Adele, you and me.

I nearly named this "ALL THE FEELINGS," because it’s an accurate description. All my feelings, ever, about Erik and Charles and Erik/Charles and four movies worth of (most of the time) perfection with regards to their relationship. This has been my baby for the past three weeks, and I'm starting to become a little concerned that it ate my head during the process. (Locked myself away, hardly talked to anybody, practically forgot to eat, didn't watch any vids or read any fic or participate in the First Class fandom, just worked day and night until it was done from the moment I had the idea. That can't be healthy.) It certainly ate my heart. Superheroes give me more emotions than any other fandom, I swear. Between this and Thor and Captain America, my heart’s about to explode. (But that’s another vid post.) The lyrics naturally align themselves with Erik’s story and his POV, and he tends to have the more visually impressive moments ideal for a vid, but I tried to ensure that as much of Charles’s side, his emotions, and his story were represented as I could within the structure of the song. There’s a tiny blip of footage before the bridge that’s not in high quality, which makes my inner perfectionist scream in agony, but hopefully it’s not too distracting or off-putting. I really like this vid! I had actually forgotten how X-3 ended and I think you really picked up the poignancy of Magneto, the chess metaphor, and the broken relationship between these two powerful men.

Oh that's really wonderful. It was moving all the way through, with great timing and really amazing connections between the lyrics and the images, but I have to say that the first rendition of the chorus, leading up to the moment where Charles leaps off the boat to "We could have had it all," sends actual chills up my spine every time I watch it. Really well done!

I haven't seen the First Class film, but I've been reading a lot of fic for it and this was just so jam packed full of emotion and I loved that you included clips from all the films. It was just brilliant and worked for me so well, I felt like I was holding my breath through most of it<3

The trilogy footage mixes so well with First Class! I never noticed how similar the two pairs of actors are in their body language - particularly Charles surprises me because McAvoy and Patrick Stewart look nothing alike and yet, watching this, they're clearly the same person. Extremely well cut! And if nothing else, X3 has some great moments for vidding.

Oh, oh wow. The sense of movement and motion and the way you blend the different films together so well is really extraordinary. I'm blown away.

Love the vid! At the beginning, I thought the song was completely (tonally) wrong for these two, but you won me over before I had finished my first viewing! Now I'm rewatching this twenty times trying to pinpoint exactly when you had me. I think it's at the first "we almost had it all"--the vid was definitely getting to me before then (flying Magnetos!), but the dissolve at 0:48-0:51 from fassy!Erik to mckellan!Erik really drives home the scale of their tragic doomed love, the way their relationship has shaped their *whole lives* even though they're not together and can never reach a meeting of minds.

I especially love Magneto turning the prison guard's blood to mist followed by Xavier's Dismayed Face. It's shortly after then when I start wanting to cry, because THE FEELINGS, I CANNOT TAKE THEM. And "throw your soul through every open door" with the clips of Raven, so adorable and sad. And the clip of Xavier's FEET, omg.

There's a thing that pretty much all my favorite vids have in common; the vid says things which change the meaning of the song. You definitely do that here, because it's a very angry song and yet the story is about so many other feelings, too.

Other special mentions: 1:10-ish with Charles uncovering Erik's happy memory; 1:50 when Charles pounds the airplane wall; 2:08-2:12 with Erik using his powers masterfully and scarily and the fact that the lyrics here make this bit parallel to the happy memory bit (which is about *Charles* powers--and so the connection is drawn between being "played" and the ethical implications of their powers).

And always when I get to the end I'm just flapping my hands and going AAAAAHHHH (in the good way).
